Thousands of comic, gaming, and pop culture fans gathered at London’s ExCeL Centre on Saturday for MCM X EGX, the UK’s largest comic, gaming, and pop culture convention.
Enthusiasts from across the country and beyond filled the event, many dressed in elaborate, self-made costumes, adding vibrant color to one of the UK’s most iconic convention events.
This year marked the first collaboration between MCM Comic Con and EGX, bringing an expanded lineup of activities. Attendees enjoyed everything from lightsaber battles and costume contests to card game sessions, along with exclusive previews of upcoming projects from leading actors, artists, and video game publishers.
Organizers reported an impressive turnout of over 100,000 attendees, who had the chance to engage with more than 700 panellists across several stages. The expo halls were packed with over 450 exhibitors showcasing their products, setting up interactive displays, and offering merchandise for sale.
Gaming fans experienced hands-on previews of upcoming titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Avowed, an immersive fantasy RPG from Obsidian set to release in February. Smaller, innovative projects were also highlighted, such as Jazzhands, an indie game developed by University of Nottingham students during a 24-hour programming event.
Despite the enthusiastic response, the gaming industry faces challenges. Several big brands were absent from this year’s event following industry layoffs and a major strike in the US. Organizers hope that merging EGX with Comic-Con will help keep the video games expo thriving, drawing a broader audience for the publishers who continue to participate.
