Royal biographer Andrew Morton has suggested that Meghan Markle is unlikely to return to the UK, as she would not want to curtsy to the Princess of Wales.
Morton, who collaborated with Diana, Princess of Wales, on her 1992 biography, Diana: Her True Story, dismissed the idea of Meghan and Prince Harry moving back from California.
Speaking to Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips on Sky News, Morton remarked, “What, and have Meghan Markle curtsying to Kate Middleton? I don’t think so.
They have their own lives in California.” Currently, the Duchess of Sussex is only required to curtsy to Kate if and when she becomes Queen.
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry opened up about Meghan’s strained relationship with Kate, recounting a tense incident where Meghan, commenting on Kate’s “baby brain,” was perceived as offensive. The situation worsened after an argument over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress, which Harry said left Meghan “sobbing on the floor.”
Morton also reflected on Princess Diana’s vision for her sons’ futures, revealing that she had hoped Harry would serve as a “wingman” to his older brother William.
Diana had also once envisioned Charles, with Camilla, moving to Italy to pursue farming and art, thus allowing William to prepare for his role as king without interference—a dream that never materialised.
“Diana imagined Prince Charles in Italy with Camilla, dedicating himself to farming and watercolour painting, while she would guide William’s path to the throne,” Morton said, adding that she saw Harry’s role as a support to William. “Well, that hasn’t happened either,” he noted.
Morton’s comments come just after the 26th anniversary of Diana’s death, as previously unheard audio tapes of the late princess are set to be broadcast in an upcoming documentary.
