A house fire that claimed the lives of two people in Coventry was determined to have been started accidentally, according to West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS). The blaze occurred in the Stoke Aldermoor area early Friday morning, with emergency crews discovering the bodies of two individuals inside the property.
WMFS investigators revealed that the fire originated from a pedal bike that had been converted into an electric bike and stored in the hallway of the home. While the identities of the deceased have not been released, officials confirmed the tragic nature of the incident.
Fire crews were dispatched to The Coppice shortly before 4:40 am GMT and encountered a severe fire that had engulfed the entire first-floor maisonette flat. The blaze was intense, affecting the whole property. WMFS stated, “The cause of the fire was accidental and involved a pedal bike converted into an electric bike stored in the hallway.”
Four fire crews were on the scene, with the first arriving within four minutes of the call. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to gain entry to the property and managed to extinguish the blaze by 5:55 am GMT.
In a statement, WMFS expressed their condolences: “No further information relating to the cause or the victims who sadly lost their lives in this tragic accident will be released at this time. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic accident.”
An extensive investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by WMFS fire investigation officers, a fire investigations dog, and local police.
