Two people have been confirmed dead following a devastating house fire that erupted in the early hours of this morning in Coventry.
The fire broke out at a residential property on The Coppice in the Stoke Aldermoor area, with emergency services arriving quickly at the scene.
The blaze, which began in a first-floor flat at around 4.40 am, led to the discovery of two bodies after the fire was extinguished. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed: “Sadly, two people were confirmed dead at the scene and we are now working to identify them.
“Our officers are liaising closely with West Midlands Fire Service, who are working to identify the cause of the fire.”
Firefighters from Coventry, Binley, Foleshill, and Canley responded within minutes, with the first engine arriving in just four minutes.
The fire was described by West Midlands Fire Service as particularly severe, impacting the entire first-floor maisonette flat.
Despite their efforts, firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, discovered the bodies of the two victims inside the property. The fire was fully extinguished by 5.55am.
West Midlands Fire Service has dispatched a team of three fire investigation officers and a fire investigation dog to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
West Midlands Ambulance Service also responded to the emergency, sending an ambulance, paramedic officer, and the Hazardous Area Response Team.
Ambulance staff worked in coordination with fire and police officers, but were unable to save the two victims.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities work to identify the deceased and gather more details on the tragic incident.
