Queen Camilla, wife of King Charles, is set to return to her royal engagements next week after recovering from a chest infection that led to the cancellation of her scheduled appearances, Buckingham Palace has announced.
The 77-year-old queen withdrew from all engagements this week to rest and recuperate at home, according to a statement from the palace on Tuesday.
However, Camilla, known for her passion for literature and her efforts in promoting reading through her charity work, will resume her duties by hosting a reception for authors shortlisted for the prestigious Booker Prize.
The event will take place at Clarence House on 12 November, as confirmed by the palace on Wednesday.
Due to her illness, Queen Camilla will miss this year’s Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey and a reception celebrating British medal winners from the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
Queen Camilla has long been an advocate for literacy and literature, reflected in her patronage of various reading and education charities.
Her commitment to promoting reading led to the establishment of her own charity, The Queen’s Reading Room, which encourages book discussions and literacy initiatives.
This passion aligns with her role in hosting events such as the Booker Prize reception, which celebrates the achievements of authors and the impact of literature on society.
