In a statement today, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer extended his congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump on a “historic victory” in the United States election, as Trump looks set to reclaim the presidency.
Starmer praised Trump’s win as a pivotal moment and affirmed the strength of the UK-US alliance.
“Congratulations, President-elect Trump, on your historic election victory,” Starmer remarked. ” “I look forward to working with you in the years ahead. As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise.”
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of the “special relationship” between the United Kingdom and the United States, highlighting the mutual benefits in areas such as economic growth, security, technological innovation, and defence.
Starmer expressed optimism that this strategic partnership will continue to prosper under Trump’s leadership, promoting stability and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.
With the final electoral count nearly complete, Trump stands only four votes away from the required 270 to secure the presidency officially.
Starmer’s recognition makes him one of the first world leaders to acknowledge Trump’s projected victory in the 2024 US presidential election.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also congratulated Trump, citing his commitment to a “peace through strength” approach to global security.
Zelenskyy expressed hope that this philosophy would support ongoing efforts toward peace in Ukraine, saying, “I am hopeful that we will put it into action together. We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership.”
