Leicester City are exploring potential managerial replacements for Steve Cooper, who was dismissed following the Foxes’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
The loss left Leicester languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, just above the relegation zone.
Cooper, who succeeded Enzo Maresca in the summer after Maresca led the club to promotion from the Championship, managed only 12 league games before being shown the door. Despite avoiding the bottom three, the club’s hierarchy opted to make a change, citing concerns over recent performances.
Among the frontrunners to take over are former Chelsea manager Graham Potter and ex-Manchester United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Potter, who has twice turned down approaches from Leicester, is said to have been contacted again on Sunday. However, according to Mail Sport, the former Brighton coach remains hesitant about taking up the role at King Power Stadium.
Van Nistelrooy, who reportedly expressed interest in the Leicester job over the summer, has seen his stock rise after a brief but successful stint as interim manager at Manchester United.
The Dutchman stepped in following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, securing three wins and a draw in his four games in charge. Despite this, new United boss Ruben Amorim chose not to retain him on the coaching staff, leaving van Nistelrooy eager for a return to management.
David Moyes, the former Manchester United, West Ham, and Everton manager, is another name linked to the vacancy. His Premier League experience makes him a strong candidate as Leicester look to steady the ship.
Other potential contenders include Carlos Corberán, Michael Carrick, and Mark Robins, though these names are seen as longer shots.
Corberán and Carrick are currently managing Championship sides West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough, respectively, while Robins is recently out of work, having been dismissed by Coventry City earlier this month.
Leicester’s next move will be critical as the club seeks to stabilise its Premier League position and ensure its survival in the top flight. Fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see who takes the reins at the King Power Stadium.
