A senior British Army officer has been charged after allegedly carrying a decommissioned grenade through security at Edinburgh Airport, Scotland’s busiest travel hub.
Lieutenant Colonel Hugo Clark, 54, was detained on 16 October after airport security flagged the item in his hand luggage during routine scanning.
The object, identified as a deactivated grenade reportedly used for training purposes, prompted the bomb squad’s deployment to the scene.
Following assessment, authorities confirmed the device was non-viable and posed no threat.
Clark was released from custody shortly after his arrest and is set to appear in court at a later date.
In a statement, Police Scotland said officers were alerted around 8:05 am on 16 October after a decommissioned ordnance device was discovered during security checks.
The man, aged 54, was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
An Army spokesperson confirmed the involvement of a service member, stating: ” A service person was involved in a security incident at Edinburgh Airport on 16 October.
“As the matter is the subject of ongoing legal proceedings we won’t comment further.”
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service declined to provide additional details, citing the active nature of the case.
