Crystal Palace Football Club has launched an investigation following allegations of racist abuse directed at midfielder Daichi Kamada by fans after his red card during Saturday’s match against Fulham.
Kamada, representing Japan, was sent off in the 76th minute following a dangerous tackle on Fulham’s Kenny Tete.
At the time of Kamada’s dismissal, Crystal Palace were down 1-0, and the match ended in a 2-0 defeat after Fulham’s Emile Smith Rowe and Harry Wilson scored.
The club issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to combatting abuse, stating, “Crystal Palace operates a zero-tolerance policy on any form of abuse. We are prepared to take the strongest possible action against anyone found responsible.”
The club did not clarify which group of supporters is alleged to have made the remarks.
Kamada’s red card will see him sidelined for Palace’s next three Premier League matches against Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Ipswich following the international break.
