Queen Camilla, 77, is resuming her public duties on Tuesday following a brief hiatus due to a chest infection. After medical advice to rest, the Queen cancelled engagements last week, including her attendance at Remembrance Sunday ceremonies. This week, she will participate in events in London but with reduced schedules to prevent a relapse.
Despite her recovery, the Queen will skip the Wednesday premiere of “Gladiator II.” Sources have emphasized there is no cause for alarm, and her adjusted schedule is intended to safeguard her health post-recovery.
On Tuesday, Queen Camilla will host a reception at Clarence House to honor the authors shortlisted for this year’s Booker Prize, though her interactions with guests will be limited compared to the original plans. Additionally, she will attend a reception at the Palace alongside King Charles on Wednesday to celebrate the TV and film industry, but her attendance will be shortened. King Charles is expected to continue with his full schedule, including attending the “Gladiator II” premiere.
The Queen’s illness followed a return from a state visit to Australia and Samoa, with a stopover in India. Last week, Buckingham Palace announced her condition, stating, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.” The statement also mentioned the Queen’s deep regret over cancelling her engagements.
This is not Queen Camilla’s first health setback. In February 2023, she missed engagements after testing positive for Covid, marking the second time she contracted the virus since February 2022.
The royal family has faced a challenging year regarding health matters. King Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February, with his treatment temporarily halted during their overseas trip but expected to resume now that he has returned to the UK. Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales, recovering from cancer treatment, made her return to public duties with a performance at the Royal Albert Hall for a Remembrance concert. She also appeared at Remembrance Sunday events alongside other senior royals.
