Rail infrastructure workers will strike for 24 hours on Saturday in a dispute concerning pay progression, working conditions, and safety practices.
The industrial action, led by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union at Rail for London Infrastructure, is set to begin at 6am.
While the strike will primarily affect infrastructure repairs and maintenance on the Elizabeth Line, Transport for London has confirmed that passenger services will not be disrupted.
RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch stated, “Our members are taking action because Rail for London Infrastructure has refused to address their legitimate concerns and has point-blank refused to meet with us.
“The company’s arrogance and disregard for its workers’ safety, pay progression and working conditions is completely unacceptable.
“We remain ready to negotiate, but the ball is firmly in the employer’s court. Until they engage meaningfully with the union, our members will continue to fight for their rights and for a safe, fair workplace,” said Lynch.
This strike comes amidst ongoing concerns regarding workers’ rights and the safety of railway infrastructure staff, highlighting the growing tension between unions and employers within the transport sector.
