A 20-year-old British man tragically lost his life in a lift shaft accident while on a family holiday in Antalya, Turkey.
Tyler Kerry, a labourer from Basildon, Essex, was discovered at the bottom of a lift shaft at his hotel on Friday morning. Local authorities pronounced him dead at the scene after paramedics were unable to resuscitate him.
Kerry’s uncle, Alex Price, shared the heartbreaking news, revealing the family received a call early that morning confirming the incident.
Despite the prompt arrival of emergency services, efforts to save Tyler’s life were unsuccessful.
A fundraising campaign launched by Price to cover funeral costs described Tyler as a young man “full of personality, kindness and compassion with his whole life ahead of him.”
It highlighted his deep devotion to his family and girlfriend, Molly, with whom he had been planning to move in.
The family is being supported by the British consulate in Antalya and TUI, the tour operator for their holiday. They hope to have Tyler’s body repatriated to the UK by Tuesday.
Amid their grief, the family is calling for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tyler’s death.
“The family is still in the dark about what’s happened and are eager for a thorough investigation to find out what’s happened,” Price said.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) confirmed its support for the grieving family, stating: “We are assisting the family of a British man who has died in Turkey.”
The fundraising campaign has already raised £4,800 to assist with funeral expenses. While Kerry’s travel insurance will cover the cost of repatriation, his family is focused on ensuring a fitting farewell for their beloved son, brother, and partner.
