Scores of families in Kent have faced a Christmas Day without water after a burst water main disrupted supply for up to 24 hours.
Southern Water, the company responsible for the region’s water supply, has apologised for the ongoing issues affecting residents in Strood and Rochester.
Initially, over 1,000 households experienced a sudden loss of water, creating a localised “drought.”
Efforts by repair teams have since reduced the number of impacted homes to around 50 in Strood.
Southern Water crews have been working tirelessly to fix the leak, and water collection points have been established at Keystone Medical Centre on Gun Lane in Rochester to assist those in need.
Additionally, Strood Sports Centre has stepped in to offer its facilities to residents wishing to take a shower during the crisis. Despite these measures, frustration remains high among affected locals.
According to KentOnline, one resident, Zoe Burgess, 50, described her ordeal. “I woke up at 7 am on Monday to find there was no running water. It wasn’t until 9:10 am the next day that bottled water was delivered. I was given 12 bottles of two litres each – enough for just four flushes.”
Southern Water continues to apologise for the inconvenience and assures residents that its teams are working around the clock to restore normal service as quickly as possible.
