A man has been charged with the murder of Gemma Devonish, a teacher found dead in south London on Thursday morning.
The 38-year-old, James Madden, from Lambeth, is accused of killing the head of year at Rosebery School in Epsom, Surrey.
Gemma Devonish, 39, was discovered at the scene in Nutfield Close, Carshalton, where she was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the tragic incident, stating that detectives are not seeking anyone else in connection with her death. A post-mortem examination is awaited to determine the cause of death.
James Madden has been remanded in custody and will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Authorities have made it clear that the investigation is ongoing, but they have no further leads at this stage.
Rosebery School, where Ms Devonish worked, expressed profound grief over the loss. The school stated that staff and pupils were “devastated by the sudden and unexpected death”.
In a statement, the school said: “Our thoughts are with Gemma’s mother and sister, extended family and friends, at this deeply distressing time.”
