Rail passengers in Devon and Cornwall are experiencing limited Great Western Railway (GWR) services due to extensive construction projects and engineering work.
GWR announced that no trains operated on Boxing Day, and an amended schedule is in place from 27 to 29 December.
During this period, trains are terminating at London Euston rather than Paddington. The disruptions are linked to ongoing work at the new HS2 station at Old Oak Common in west London and critical track upgrades.
The revised schedule affects passengers traveling to and from the South West, including Devon and Cornwall. GWR confirmed that trains are being diverted from Reading to London Euston, with services running once per hour.
From 27 December, the GWR network is operating on an adjusted timetable, with initial services starting later than usual. Passengers traveling long distances on 28 and 29 December will need to board trains that terminate at Reading or Swindon.
A limited direct service is in place for routes connecting London Euston to Plymouth and Penzance.
Plan Ahead for Travel Disruptions
Passengers are advised to check timetables and plan their journeys carefully during this period. The changes aim to accommodate vital infrastructure improvements that will ultimately enhance rail travel in the region.
