Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Thomas Taylor near Bedford bus station, Bedfordshire Police have confirmed.
The attack occurred at approximately 5:50 pm on Wednesday as Thomas, a student at Bedford Academy, walked along Greenhill Street, close to the town centre bus station.
He was assaulted by a group of males and sustained serious injuries. Despite being rushed to hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.
On Friday, police detained two 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old on suspicion of murder. A man in his 60s was arrested earlier on suspicion of assisting an offender but has been released on police bail while investigations continue.
Police Investigation and Community Appeal
Detective Inspector Richard Stott, leading the investigation for the Major Crime Unit, described the incident as “absolutely shocking.”
He said: “A teenage boy has lost his life due to knife crime and serious youth violence. We want to reassure the community that we are pursuing all lines of inquiry and have increased patrols in the area to provide support.”
DI Stott urged anyone with information about the incident or the events leading up to it to come forward. “We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the attack or has knowledge of those involved,” he added.
