Starting Monday, 13th January, passengers arriving at or departing from Edinburgh Airport will face a minimum charge of £6 for using the pickup and drop-off zone.
This £1 increase, announced by the airport, which is part of the VINCI Airports network, aims to encourage greater use of public transport and reduce emissions.
The revised fee covers the first 10 minutes in the designated area, with additional charges applying for time beyond this limit.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable travel to and from the airport.
Electric vehicle users and local residents will still benefit from a 50% discount on the initial 10-minute charge, ensuring the scheme supports environmentally friendly travel options.
Gail Taylor, Chief Commercial Officer at Edinburgh Airport, commented: “We’ve just had a record-breaking year for passenger numbers at Edinburgh Airport, and this trend is set to continue. It’s vital we encourage more sustainable travel choices for journeys to and from the airport.
“Cars are the most polluting mode of transport, with an average of four journeys per passenger compared to just two when using public transport. By promoting our robust public transport links, we can help reduce emissions and ease congestion in the area.
“We’re also planning significant capacity upgrades in the coming years, with reinvestment in airport infrastructure aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.”
This move aligns with Edinburgh Airport’s commitment to sustainability, as it balances growing passenger demand with efforts to minimise environmental impact.
