Four officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) were injured after being attacked by a 21-year-old man wielding a large piece of wood in County Down.
The incident occurred on Sunday at around 8:20 GMT in the Demesne area of Newry, following reports of a disturbance and damage to property.
Upon arrival, the officers were confronted by the suspect, who launched an attack, causing injuries. The officers sustained bruises, lacerations, and back pain, with one requiring hospital treatment. Despite their injuries, all officers remained on duty.
Charges Filed Against the Suspect
The 21-year-old man has been charged with multiple offenses, including assault on police, disorderly behavior, and possession of an offensive weapon. He is scheduled to appear at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

The PSNI praised the dedication of the injured officers, who continued their duties despite the attack. Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
