Manchester City has officially signed Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for €70 million (£59 million), with potential add-ons increasing the fee by £4 million. The 25-year-old has agreed to a contract that will keep him at the Etihad until June 2029.
Marmoush has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 15 goals in 17 Bundesliga matches, a tally second only to England captain Harry Kane’s 16 for Bayern Munich. Speaking on his move, Marmoush said, “Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in the world over the past 10 years, so it was not a question. Representing City is a dream come true for me and my family.”
A New Forward to Support Haaland
Marmoush’s signing comes as City manager Pep Guardiola looks to address the team’s need for additional attacking options. With Erling Haaland carrying the bulk of the scoring responsibility, Marmoush is expected to share the load and offer tactical versatility. The Egyptian forward can play as a striker, a number 10, or a winger, bringing speed, skill, and awareness to City’s attacking line.
City director of football Txiki Begiristain highlighted Marmoush’s qualities, saying, “Omar has outstanding pace and awareness, and his versatility is a valuable asset to the team.”
Marmoush’s Journey to the Premier League
Marmoush began his professional career in Egypt with Wadi Degla before moving to VfL Wolfsburg in 2020. He gained experience during loan spells at FC St Pauli and VfB Stuttgart, and in 2023, he joined Eintracht Frankfurt. In his time at Frankfurt, Marmoush scored 37 goals and provided 20 assists in 67 appearances, cementing his reputation as a top talent.
Guardiola’s decision to sign Marmoush follows his admission that City needed a refreshed squad after the summer transfer window. Marmoush joins other January signings, including Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras and Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.
Ready for Action
Marmoush is expected to be available for Manchester City’s Premier League clash against Chelsea on Saturday, but he will not be eligible for next week’s crucial Champions League match against Club Brugge.
With 20 goals across all competitions in the first half of the season, Marmoush’s addition to City’s lineup could be a game-changer as they aim to secure both domestic and European success.
