A 17-year-old teenager, Thomas Taylor, has tragically lost his life after being stabbed in Bedford.
The incident occurred on Greenhill Street, near Bedford Bus Station, at approximately 5.50 pm on Wednesday.
Thomas was attacked by a group of men and suffered severe injuries. Despite being rushed to hospital, he sadly passed away shortly after. A murder investigation is now underway, but the attackers remain at large.
According to Bedfordshire Police, the suspects were described as black and wearing dark clothing. Witnesses reported seeing them flee towards Hassett Street and Greyfriars car park.
Detective Chief Inspector Katie Dounias described the incident as “absolutely shocking,” particularly given its occurrence in a busy town centre.
“Our team of detectives is working tirelessly on this investigation and providing support to Thomas’s grieving family,” she said.
“If you witnessed the attack or have any information, please come forward and help us bring those responsible to justice. Additionally, we urge people to refrain from sharing images or videos circulating on social media and instead share them with the police.”
Chris Deller, headteacher at Bedford Academy, expressed the school community’s profound sadness at the loss of Thomas, a former student who had recently finished Year 11 and joined the sixth form.
“Thomas was a popular, well-liked, and respected young man,” Mr Deller said. “Our priority now is to support his family during this devastating time and to help our students and wider community cope with such a tragic loss.”
Police are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to contact them immediately as they intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects.
