A business in London’s Old East Village suffered $250,000 in damages after a fire broke out on Monday evening at 779 Dundas St. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Fire crews responded to the blaze around 8:30 p.m., quickly calling in a secondary aerial truck to access the roof of the older building, which had multiple layers of roofing material that made firefighting efforts challenging.
Fire Contained After Two-Hour Battle
According to fire officials, it took about two and a half hours to fully extinguish the fire. Deputy Fire Chief Mosburger noted that the age and structure of the building contributed to the difficulty in accessing and dousing the flames.
Fire Cause and Damage Assessment
Investigators have determined the fire was accidental, though specific details on the cause have not been disclosed. The estimated damage to the historic structure is approximately $250,000.
Community Response and Next Steps
While the fire caused significant property damage, no injuries were reported. Authorities have urged businesses in the area to review fire safety protocols, particularly in older buildings with layered roofing structures that can complicate firefighting efforts.
London fire officials continue to monitor the situation as business owners assess the impact and begin recovery efforts.
