Nathan Gill, former leader of Reform UK in Wales, has been charged with multiple bribery offences linked to alleged pro-Russia statements made in the European Parliament.
The far-right agitator faces eight counts of bribery and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.
Prosecutors claim he was paid by former Ukrainian politician Oleg Voloshyn to deliver specific statements in support of Russia on at least eight occasions.
Gill, who hails from Anglesey, north Wales, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where he was granted bail under strict conditions.
He must surrender his passport, refrain from obtaining international travel documents, and avoid any contact with Voloshyn.
His next court appearance is scheduled for March 14 at the Old Bailey.
Once a prominent figure in Reform UK, Gill led the party’s 2021 Welsh Parliament election campaign but stepped down after failing to secure a seat.
He was previously elected as a UKIP MEP in 2014 and later joined the Brexit Party, which became Reform UK.
His tenure in the European Parliament ended when Britain formally exited the EU in 2020.
