Detective Superintendent Lorett Spierenburg described the incident as “deeply sad” and emphasized the thorough investigation that has taken place.
“This remains a deeply upsetting time for Atticus’ family,” she said. “They have requested privacy, and we are ensuring they receive ongoing specialist support during this difficult period.”
Local Community Urged Not to Speculate
Authorities recognize the shock and distress this case may cause in Chard and surrounding areas. Det Supt Spierenburg urged the community to remain patient as the legal process unfolds.
“The full details will be presented in court, and we ask people to avoid speculation as it may not only cause further distress to Atticus’ family but could also prejudice the trial,” she warned.
She assured that the local neighbourhood policing team would be available for anyone needing support or reassurance.
