Police reported that a nine-year-old boy is currently hospitalised in a serious condition following a collision with a bus while riding his bicycle.
The incident occurred on the slip road linking Glasgow Road in Kilmarnock to the A77, around 11:45 AM on Sunday.
Emergency responders swiftly transported the boy to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he remains in a serious state. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the bus passengers.
Following the accident, the road was closed for an investigation period of five hours, causing significant disruptions.
Police are now appealing for witnesses in the vicinity at the time of the crash to come forward and assist in piecing together the events leading up to the incident.
Sergeant Brian Simpson, leading the enquiry, has requested that any witnesses or individuals with pertinent information contact the police.
He has also called on drivers who were on the road at the time and possess dash-cam footage to review their recordings for any relevant evidence.
