An 83-year-old woman has tragically died following a single-vehicle accident on the A390 in Cornwall, police have confirmed.
The collision occurred on 4 February between St Ive and Merrymeet, involving a car carrying two elderly occupants.
The passenger, an 83-year-old woman from the Callington area, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on Monday, 5 February.
The driver, an 88-year-old woman, also from Callington, was also taken to hospital, though her condition has not been disclosed.
Devon and Cornwall Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward.
The woman’s next of kin has been informed, and officers continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The A390 is a key route in Cornwall, running from Tavistock to Truro and passing through several rural areas, including Callington, Liskeard, and St Austell.
The stretch between St Ive and Merrymeet has seen previous road safety concerns, with local authorities often urging caution due to narrow roads, sharp bends, and varying speed limits.
Police have urged any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to contact them via 101, quoting log 520 of 4 February.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident and are encouraging drivers to remain vigilant on rural roads, particularly during winter months when conditions can be more hazardous.
