A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the death of 15-year-old Amen Teklay in Glasgow on Wednesday night.
Amen was discovered with serious injuries on Clarendon Street at approximately 10:30 pm. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Murder Investigation Underway
Following a post-mortem examination, Police Scotland confirmed on Friday that Amen’s death is being treated as murder.
Initially, both a 14-year-old and 15-year-old were arrested in connection with the incident. However, on Sunday, police confirmed that the 14-year-old has now been charged and is set to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the 15-year-old suspect, but enquiries remain ongoing.
Tributes to Amen Teklay
Amen was a student at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School, where he was described as a bright and talented pupil with a keen interest in music and media.
Headteacher Claire McInally paid tribute, saying:
“Amen was a friendly and much-loved young man who showed great promise. This is a devastating time for our school community, and we are offering support to our pupils, staff, and those affected.”
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Campbell Jackson extended condolences to Amen’s loved ones, stating:
“Our thoughts remain with Amen’s family and friends at this difficult time. Our investigation continues, and we urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.”
Superintendent Christopher Stewart reassured the local community, confirming a heightened police presence in the area. He encouraged residents to approach officers with any concerns, emphasising that they are there to offer support.
As the murder inquiry continues, Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to step forward.
