A British national has been detained in Bali on suspicion of being involved in a Hungarian-Bali drug network, according to local authorities. The BNNP Bali, the province’s anti-narcotics agency, released a video featuring several suspects, including a British man referred to as TP, believed to be from West Cumbria.
British Embassy Responds
The UK Foreign Office confirmed it is supporting the detained British national and is in contact with Indonesian authorities regarding the case.
Officials have not yet formally charged the man, but he was identified in the video as one of seven suspects (“tersangka” in Indonesian).
Arrest Details & Drug Seizure
Authorities stated that the British suspect was arrested outside a villa in the Kerobokan area of North Kuta after arriving from Thailand. He was allegedly receiving a package from a motorcycle taxi, which was found to contain over 1kg (2.3lbs) of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy.
The video also showed Bali police officers destroying the confiscated drugs as part of the operation.
Possible Charges & Penalties
If formally charged, the British man could face severe penalties, including the death penalty or life imprisonment, under Indonesia’s strict anti-drug laws.
