While Erling Haaland’s scoring prowess has seemingly returned to more earthly levels, he has nonetheless achieved a remarkable milestone in Manchester City’s recent 2-2 draw against Brighton.
In converting a penalty, Haaland notched his 100th Premier League goal contribution—both goals and assists—in merely his 94th appearance. This feat sees him eclipse the previous benchmark set by Alan Shearer, who required 100 matches to reach this tally.
Haaland, who transferred to City from Borussia Dortmund in June 2022 for £51.2 million, and Shearer are the sole figures to have attained this milestone by their third Premier League season.
Notably, Shearer’s earlier seasons in the old First Division are not included in this statistic. Other football legends like Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, achieved the 100-goal contribution mark in their fourth seasons, while icons such as Eric Cantona and Mohamed Salah reached it in their fifth or beyond.
Remarkably, Haaland’s century of Premier League contributions comprises 84 goals and 16 assists.
Only Harry Kane, the former Tottenham forward, had fewer assists (13) by the time he reached this milestone. In contrast, Cantona and Matt Le Tissier, for Manchester United and Southampton respectively, recorded significantly higher assists at this stage in their careers.
Despite winning the Premier League Golden Boot in his initial two seasons with Manchester City, Haaland’s current tally of 20 goals in 27 matches leaves him trailing behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Notably, Salah has combined 17 assists with his goal haul, overshadowing Haaland’s three for the season. After an explosive start of 10 goals in the first five matches—recalling Pongo Waring’s 1930 record start for Aston Villa—Haaland’s current season sees him averaging a goal or assist every 103 minutes, a slowdown from his earlier blistering pace.
