A man has been arrested after two police vehicles were rammed and four officers injured during a pursuit in west Belfast.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 am on Saturday when officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) attempted to stop a black Audi A4 on Servia Street. The driver failed to comply, leading to a high-speed chase.
During the pursuit, police reported that the car was driven dangerously, swerving onto the wrong side of the road, ignoring junctions, and even driving the wrong way around a roundabout.
A short time later, the vehicle was intercepted on Upper Springfield Road by two police units. However, as officers approached, the driver reversed into one of the police cars, jolting an officer who was in the process of exiting.
The suspect then attempted to flee again, colliding with a second police vehicle in the process.
A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while unfit, and failing to stop for police. He remains in custody.
The four officers involved sustained minor injuries but remained on duty. The damaged police cars are now undergoing repairs.
Chief Inspector Pete Cunningham described the incident as completely reckless and dangerous, adding that it was fortunate no members of the public were harmed.
Police are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward.
