A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a devastating house fire that claimed the lives of three people, including a four-year-old girl, in Rushton, near Kettering.
Emergency services were called to Beswick Close at around 10:30 pm on Friday after reports of a large fire at a historic former stationmaster’s house.
Despite efforts to control the blaze, three people lost their lives. Northamptonshire Police confirmed that the victims are believed to be a 30-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man, and a young child.
A man from Kettering was arrested on Saturday in connection with the incident and remains in police custody as investigations continue. The victims’ next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Chief Inspector Paul Cash acknowledged the distress caused by the tragedy and assured the community that officers will remain in the area to provide support and reassurance.
He confirmed that an investigation is well underway but remains in its early stages, with authorities working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Images from the scene reveal extensive fire damage, with a large hole burned through the roof of the 19th-century property. The house, a Grade II-listed building, was originally the stationmaster’s residence for the now-closed Glendon and Rushton railway station and is believed to have been converted into a private home.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting incident reference 25000180391.
