A London couple found dead in New Zealand is at the center of a suspected murder-suicide, according to authorities. New Zealand Police discovered the bodies of the British man and woman in a home in Roseneath, a suburb of Wellington, during a welfare check on Monday.
Police Say No One Else Is Being Sought
Officers forced entry into the property on Palliser Road after receiving concerns from a family member who had been unable to reach the couple. According to Detective Inspector Haley Ryan, police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident but are appealing for any information or CCTV footage from the area.
The case has been referred to the coroner as investigations continue. The identities of the couple have not been released, and authorities are working closely with the affected family.
Couple Had Recently Relocated from London
The couple reportedly moved from London to New Zealand late last year. Their neighbor, Emma Prestidge, told Radio New Zealand that the pair had recently arrived and were planning to settle in the country long term.
“My understanding is they’d finally packed up their lives in London… and they were looking to move here for good,” she said. “They were in the next phase of their life, which is truly sad.”
Family Requests Privacy as Police Investigate
In an official statement, police said they are “providing support to the family at the center of this tragic event.” The family has asked for privacy as they grieve.
The UK Foreign Office said it had not yet been contacted for consular support but confirmed that staff are available around the clock to assist British nationals overseas if needed.
