A major fire has broken out at an electrical substation on Aberdeen Place in Maida Vale, west London, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze, which started early on Tuesday morning.
According to the London Fire Brigade, the roof of a neighbouring residential property also caught alight as the fire spread.
The brigade received more than 170 emergency calls reporting the incident shortly after 5:30 am.
Station Commander Paul Morgan said: “This is a highly visible fire producing significant amounts of smoke. We are advising residents to keep windows and doors closed and to avoid the area where possible.”
Fire crews from Paddington, Euston, and several other stations are currently battling the flames.
At this stage, the cause of the substation fire has not been determined. Investigations are expected to commence once the fire is fully under control.
The incident comes just a month after a fire at an electrical substation near Heathrow Airport caused severe disruption, leading to the cancellation of over 1,000 flights and affecting hundreds of thousands of passengers.
However, the Metropolitan Police later confirmed that the Heathrow incident was not being treated as a criminal matter.
Emergency services continue to manage the Maida Vale fire, with significant disruption likely in the surrounding area throughout the day.
