A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with the Huddersfield teen murder of 16-year-old Ahmad Mamdouh Al Ibrahim, who was fatally stabbed in the neck in the town centre. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon on Ramsden Street, prompting a large emergency response from West Yorkshire Police.
The victim, Ahmad Mamdouh Al Ibrahim, had recently relocated to Huddersfield from South Wales. He was rushed to hospital after sustaining a single knife wound to the neck but tragically died from his injuries.
Man Charged with Murder and Knife Possession
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that Alfie Franco, aged 20 and from Kirkburton, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place. He appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and has been remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for 8 April at Leeds Crown Court.
Two other individuals—a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman—were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both have been released on bail while investigations continue.
Police Deny Gang-Related Motive
In response to speculation circulating on social media, West Yorkshire Police issued a statement clarifying that the incident was not gang-related or linked to any wider group conflict.
“We are aware of misinformation circulating on social media, specifically X, regarding the circumstances of the incident and the ethnicities of those involved,” a police spokesperson said. “The incident is not gang-related or connected to any ongoing dispute between groups.”
Community Reacts to “Tragic” Knife Crime Incident
Alison Lowe, West Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, described the teenager’s death as “an absolute tragedy.”
“Even though we’ve had several young people die across West Yorkshire by knife crime over the last five years, it is still a very rare event,” she said, urging calm and caution amid rising community concerns about youth violence and knife crime.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.
