Counter-terrorism police are leading an investigation after two women were injured during a serious incident involving a crossbow and a firearm in Leeds.
West Yorkshire Police were called to Otley Road in Headingley at 2:47 pm on Saturday following reports of a man seen with weapons.
Upon arrival, officers found two women with injuries, alongside a 38-year-old man who had suffered a self-inflicted wound.
All three were taken to the hospital for treatment, and while their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, the man remains under arrest.
Counter Terrorism Policing North East confirmed that two weapons — a crossbow and a firearm — were recovered from the scene.
Extensive enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the Headingley incident and to explore any potential motivations behind the attack.
The disturbance occurred along the popular ‘Otley Run’ pub crawl route, an area busy with students and revellers. One nearby venue announced it would be closed for the evening citing “unforeseen circumstances” following the Leeds crossbow attack.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper described the event as a “serious violent incident” and confirmed she is being kept regularly briefed by police.
“Thank you to the police and emergency services for their swift response,” Cooper said. “My thoughts are with the victims and all those affected by this attack.”
The investigation remains ongoing, with a heightened police presence expected in the area as detectives continue their work. Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage related to the Leeds attack to come forward.
