Russell Brand has been formally charged with rape and multiple counts of sexual assault following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
The 50-year-old comedian, actor, and author faces allegations spanning from 1999 to 2005, involving four women.
The charges include rape, two counts of sexual assault, one count of oral rape, and one count of indecent assault. Brand is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 2 May.
According to police reports, the comedian is accused of raping a woman in Bournemouth in 1999 and indecently assaulting another in Westminster in 2001.
Further allegations include oral rape and sexual assault in Westminster in 2004, while another woman claims she was sexually assaulted in the same area between 2004 and 2005.
The investigation into Brand began in September 2023 after police received multiple allegations. Despite the charges, Brand has previously denied any wrongdoing, insisting that all his past relationships were consensual.
Detectives have confirmed that the women involved are receiving ongoing support from specially trained officers.
The Metropolitan Police have urged anyone affected by this case or with relevant information to come forward.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine further evidence and testimonies. Brand’s upcoming court appearance is expected to mark the next stage in the legal proceedings.
