Mohamed Salah has put pen to paper on a fresh two-year contract with Liverpool, quelling speculation over a potential departure and reaffirming his commitment to the club where he has enjoyed the most fruitful spell of his career.
The Egyptian forward, now 32, was approaching the end of his existing deal this summer, with rumours swirling over a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia and a series of ambiguous comments throughout the season only fuelling uncertainty.
However, the Reds have secured his services until 2027, offering fans relief and renewed hope for more silverware.
Salah, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, has amassed an extraordinary 243 goals and 109 assists in 394 appearances for the club.
This season alone, he has netted 32 times across all competitions, with 27 of those in the Premier League—helping to keep Liverpool firmly in the title hunt as they sit 11 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with seven matches remaining.
“Of course, I’m thrilled. We’ve got a fantastic team,” said Salah. “I’ve spent eight wonderful years here and hopefully I’ll make it a decade. I’m happy on and off the pitch, and I believe we’re still capable of winning more trophies.”
The Egyptian talisman currently boasts the highest goal involvement per 90 minutes (1.44) of any player in a single Premier League season. His performance levels have remained consistently high despite ongoing speculation about his future.
Salah was one of three key players entering the final months of their contracts, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. While the Dutch defender has confirmed positive progress in negotiations, Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.
The terms of Salah’s renewed deal have not been officially disclosed, but it is understood he remains one of the highest earners in the club’s history, with no pay reduction involved in the latest agreement. His previous contract reportedly paid in excess of £350,000 a week.
Talks had stalled for much of the season. Back in September, Salah stated it might be his “last season” at Anfield after a 3-0 win at Manchester United, citing a lack of discussions about renewal.
Further comments in November suggested he was “probably more out than in,” though the club maintained that dialogue with his representatives remained positive.
By January, he publicly acknowledged that negotiations were “far away from any progress”, yet manager Arne Slot remained confident, insisting Salah was “wise enough to make the right decision”.
Liverpool notably rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad in 2023, and Saudi officials have repeatedly expressed interest in the player. However, Salah has now opted to extend his legacy at Anfield.
The club marked the announcement with a striking image of the ‘Egyptian King’ seated on a throne at Anfield, accompanied by the caption: “More in than out.”
