A man in his 70s has been shot multiple times in an attack at his home in Coleraine, County Londonderry.
The elderly victim was shot five times in his arms and legs by masked men who broke into his property on Thursday evening.
The police received the report of the shooting at approximately 19:50 GMT on Thursday, and authorities are now investigating the disturbing incident.
The shooting took place at a residence in Ballygallin Park, a residential area in Coleraine, which is located in Northern Ireland’s County Londonderry.
According to police, a group of men wearing balaclavas entered the victim’s home and launched the violent attack.
The man was shot in both his arms and legs, and suffered additional injuries to his head and torso.
Despite the severity of his wounds, the police have stated that his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Detective Inspector Lavery of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) condemned the attack, calling it “absolutely appalling” that an elderly person had been targeted in their own home.
The police are continuing to investigate and have appealed to the public for any information that could assist with the case.
They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area around the time of the attack.
Coleraine, located on the northern coast of Northern Ireland, is a popular town known for its rich history and proximity to the Causeway Coast.
However, like many towns, it has also experienced incidents of crime that have raised concerns among local residents.
