A major disruption has affected homes and businesses in the south side of Glasgow after a water mains burst led to flooding and water supply issues across several areas.
Scottish Water confirmed that properties in the G41, G42, G43, and G44 postcode areas, including Shawlands and Strathbungo, were left without water following the incident.
The burst water main caused significant flooding, impacting several streets, including Pollokshaws Road, Cumberland Street, Eglington Street, and Maxwell Drive.
Police Scotland responded by closing Pollokshaws Road from Albert Drive to Cumberland Street to prevent further disruption and ensure public safety.
Scottish Water confirmed that engineers were on-site, working alongside fire crews to assess and resolve the situation.
The water utility company is investigating the cause of the burst and is working to restore water supply to affected properties as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, road users and members of the public were advised to avoid the area due to the ongoing works and potential hazards posed by the flooding.
The company assured residents and businesses that they were working hard to address the issue and restore services as quickly as possible. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
A statement by Scottish Water said: “We are investigating reports of supply issues and will update our channels as soon as more info is available.
“Apologies for any inconvenience caused by this.”
Water main bursts can occur due to a variety of factors, including aging infrastructure, pressure changes in the system, or extreme weather conditions.
Glasgow, with its mix of older buildings and modern developments, faces ongoing challenges related to water supply infrastructure.
Scottish Water is responsible for maintaining and repairing water mains across the region, and incidents like this highlight the importance of continued investment in the city’s water systems to prevent future disruptions.
