Residents of the Isle of Barra have been urged by police to exercise caution following reports of counterfeit £20 banknotes circulating in the area.
These fraudulent notes, bearing King Charles III’s portrait and identified as Bank of England currency, have prompted an investigation by officers.
All counterfeit notes discovered share the identical identifier code, BB81 324259.
According to a statement from Police Scotland, the public, particularly shop owners, should remain alert.
The fake currency appears legitimate, mirroring the look and feel of the new plastic notes, and fails to trigger alarms with standard counterfeit detection pens.
Authorities are requesting anyone with information or suspicions about the counterfeit notes to report by calling 101.
The community’s vigilance is critical in tackling this issue as investigations continue.
