Two women have tragically died following separate road crashes in Northern Ireland on Thursday afternoon.
The fatal collisions occurred near Coleraine in County Londonderry and outside Dungannon in County Tyrone, prompting investigations by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
Emergency services were first called to the Windyhill Road, just outside Coleraine, at around 3pm following a serious two-vehicle collision involving a Seat Ibiza and a Toyota Hilux.
The female driver of the Seat Ibiza was pronounced dead at the scene, while another individual was rushed to hospital after being treated by paramedics.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) confirmed that the emergency response included two ambulance crews, a rapid response paramedic, and the air ambulance.
PSNI officers have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
A second fatal crash occurred shortly before 5pm in the Old Loughrey Road area of Cookstown, involving a Ford Ka and a Nissan Note.
A female passenger in the Ford Ka sadly died at the scene, while the male drivers of both vehicles and a young child travelling in the Nissan were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
The NI Ambulance Service confirmed that the emergency response involved two rapid response paramedics, five emergency crews, a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and an ambulance officer.
Following initial on-site treatment, one patient was transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital, a child was taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, and another individual was admitted to Craigavon Area Hospital.
Detectives from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit are urging anyone who witnessed either crash or has relevant dashcam footage to assist with ongoing inquiries.
