An 80-year-old dog walker was brutally attacked and killed by a 15-year-old boy wearing a balaclava while a 13-year-old girl filmed the assault and laughed, a court has heard.
Bhim Kohli was out walking his dog near his home in Braunstone Town, Leicester, on 1 September last year when he was allegedly targeted in Franklin Park.
During the trial at Leicester Crown Court, prosecutors described the attack as an act of “pure violence” with no justification.
The jury was shown footage of the assault, which was recorded on the girl’s phone.
According to the prosecution, the boy, accompanied by a group of friends, entered the park shortly after Mr Kohli.
The 13-year-old girl then pointed him out, falsely claiming that he had tried to hit one of the boy’s friends with a stick.
The court heard that while some of the group left, the boy and the girl approached Mr Kohli.
Within minutes, the boy allegedly pulled on a balaclava in preparation for the attack.
Prosecutor Harpreet Sandhu KC told the court that Mr Kohli was “on his knees” when the boy struck him across the face with a slider shoe. The girl reportedly laughed as she filmed the assault.
Jurors were shown the footage, which captured the sound of the impact.
The prosecution argued that there was no threat from the elderly man and described the violence as completely unprovoked.
The trial continues.
