A signalling fault is causing widespread disruption to ScotRail services departing from Glasgow Central, with multiple routes affected.
The issue, identified between Barrhead and Dunlop, has led to the closure of railway lines while Network Rail conducts investigations.
As a result, services running between Glasgow Central and Barrhead, Kilmarnock, Lanark, Stranraer, and Ayr are experiencing significant delays in both directions.
Additionally, ScotRail has confirmed that journeys to Carlisle are also affected. Passengers travelling towards Carlisle can use their ScotRail tickets on TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast services until 10 am.
The disruption has also impacted services on the North Clyde and Argyle Lines, affecting routes to Dalmuir, Larkhall, Whifflet, and Motherwell due to a separate signalling issue at Newton Lanark. Delays are expected to continue for the next few hours.
ScotRail addressed the situation on social media, stating: “Due to a fault with the signalling system between Barrhead and Dunlop, all lines are closed. Network Rail staff are on-site carrying out inspections.”
Passengers are advised to check live updates before travelling and allow extra time for their journeys as engineers work to resolve the faults.
