Amid growing tensions in the Gulf, a senior Iranian military official has threatened retaliation against a British base housing US forces, warning that no distinction would be made between UK and American troops if Iran is attacked. The statement marks a serious escalation as Iran responds to recent warnings from former US President Donald Trump and heightened Western military presence in the region.
Iran Warns of Strike on British Base If US Attacks
In an interview with The Telegraph, an unnamed Iranian general stated that Iran would target any base used by the US military—regardless of its national affiliation. “There will be no distinction in targeting British or American forces if Iran is attacked from any base in the region or within range of Iranian missiles,” the general declared. He added that even Turkish forces may be at risk if their bases support US operations.
Diego Garcia Base in Crosshairs
The warning appears to be directed at Diego Garcia, a remote UK-controlled island in the Indian Ocean, where at least five US B-2 stealth bombers have reportedly been stationed. Iranian state-affiliated media also hinted at the potential use of ballistic missiles and suicide drones against the base, suggesting Tehran is prepared for asymmetric retaliation.
Iran Threatens to Block Strait of Hormuz
Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, head of the IRGC Navy, added another layer to the threat, warning that Iran could block the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. While the decision to do so rests with Iranian leadership, Tangsiri stated, “Its implementation is mine.”
Tangsiri also accused Israel of regional destabilization and warned that Saudi Arabia and Iraq are aligning with what he called an Israeli plan to dominate the Middle East.
Trump Warns of “Bad Things” for Iran If Talks Fail
Former President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that he had sent a letter to Iran’s leadership urging diplomacy. However, he issued a stern warning: “If we don’t work it out, bad, bad things are going to happen to Iran.” Trump insisted that while diplomacy is his preference, the US is prepared for alternative outcomes.
Israel and US Monitor Situation Amid Nuclear Concerns
Israel, closely monitoring developments, expects indirect US-Iran talks to unfold in the coming months. Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer recently met with Washington officials to discuss potential scenarios.
Both US and Israeli officials share concerns that Iran may accelerate its nuclear ambitions. Intelligence reports suggest that Iran could enrich enough weapons-grade uranium for a bomb in under a week, intensifying fears that a military confrontation may be imminent if diplomacy fails.
