More than 68,000 Ukrainian military personnel have completed training in the UK under British-led programmes since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
The latest figure was disclosed by Defence Minister Louise Sandher-Jones in a written parliamentary response to Labour MP Gordon McKee, who asked how many Ukrainian personnel had completed military training in Britain.
Sandher-Jones said: “Under UK-led programmes, over 68,000 Ukrainian personnel have completed military training in the UK.”
The majority of the training has been delivered through Operation Interflex, a UK-led initiative launched in the summer of 2022 to prepare Ukrainian recruits for frontline service.
The programme provides intensive military instruction to recruits, many of whom have no previous military experience. Training covers core combat skills including weapons handling, battlefield first aid, trench warfare and urban combat before personnel return to Ukraine.
Operation Interflex is delivered at military sites across the UK by British Armed Forces instructors, supported by troops from several partner nations.
Countries contributing to the multinational training effort include Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Romania and Kosovo.
The programme has become one of the largest multinational military training operations ever conducted on British soil, highlighting the UK’s continued role in supporting Ukraine’s armed forces throughout the conflict.
