A Labour MP has been accused of assaulting a constituent outside a chip shop in Frodsham, Cheshire.
Footage has surfaced appearing to show Mike Amesbury, the MP for Runcorn and Helsby, threatening a man seated on the ground.
In the video, Amesbury can be heard saying, ‘You won’t ever threaten me again, will you? You won’t ever threaten me again.’
As bystanders identify him as the local MP, he responds, “Yes I am, and you won’t threaten the MP ever again, will you?”
Cheshire Police confirmed they received a report of an assault at 2:48 AM on Saturday, 26 October, detailing that a caller reported being assaulted by a man on Main Street.
The Labour Party has stated that Amesbury will fully cooperate with police inquiries. A party spokesperson said, “‘We understand that Mike Amesbury MP approached Cheshire Police to report what happened this morning himself and that he will cooperate with any inquiries they have.’
The incident has raised concerns about the conduct of elected officials, and further developments are awaited as police investigate the matter.
