An autistic 14-year-old boy, Kayden, was viciously attacked in Mansfield’s Ladybrook Park on Tuesday evening, leaving him with head injuries and severe facial bruising.
A gang of youths, including both boys and girls, allegedly assaulted Kayden, stabbing him in the head, beating him, and even attempting to set him on fire using a lighter and deodorant spray.
The incident has shocked the community, with Nottinghamshire Police arresting three suspects so far, including two boys aged 13 and 14 and a 16-year-old girl.
In response to the traumatic event, a local fundraiser has been launched to replace Kayden’s beloved jacket, which was taken as police evidence.
The campaign, set up by his mother Zoey, has already raised over £1,300 to help support Kayden’s recovery and lift his spirits.
Zoey shared that the generosity of the community brought Kayden his first smile since the attack.
The assault unfolded after Kayden received a text message warning him that a group intended to harm him.
When about 15 youths arrived at the park, they quickly overwhelmed him, leaving him hospitalised with a wound that required medical gluing and significant bruising across his face.
Nottinghamshire Police have increased patrols in the area and are calling for witnesses to aid in identifying additional suspects involved in this targeted attack.
Two young suspects are currently held on charges of grievous bodily harm with intent, while a 16-year-old girl faces charges of assisting in the offence and possessing cannabis.
This harrowing incident has sparked a strong community response, with Mansfield locals rallying in support of Kayden’s family as they work to help him recover from the physical and emotional scars.
