A child tragically died on Saturday afternoon after being hit by a falling tree branch in Banstead, Surrey, according to the Metropolitan Police. Emergency services, including the London Fire Brigade (LFB), London Ambulance Service, and Surrey Fire and Rescue, responded to the incident shortly after 4:00 pm BST at Grove Place.
Authorities have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play; however, investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing. The child’s age has not yet been disclosed, as officers are in the process of notifying all family members, a police spokesperson confirmed.
The London Fire Brigade reported that they arrived at the scene following reports of a child trapped by a portion of a fallen tree. Firefighters collaborated with paramedics and a fire engine crew from Surrey Fire and Rescue to conduct a rescue operation. Despite their combined efforts, the child was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne expressed his condolences: “The thoughts of our crews and staff across the entire Brigade are with the child’s family at this difficult time.”
The Metropolitan Police indicated that a report on the incident will be prepared for the coroner.
