Two masked burglars infiltrated King Charles III’s Windsor Castle estate, stealing farm vehicles in a daring overnight raid, UK police confirmed on Monday. This high-profile estate also houses Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children. The burglary, which occurred on October 13, has heightened security concerns at one of the United Kingdom’s most iconic royal residences.
The incident involved two men who scaled a six-foot fence and used a stolen truck to ram through a security gate. At the time, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children were reportedly asleep at Adelaide Cottage. The burglars successfully stole a black Isuzu pick-up truck and a red quad bike stored in a barn on the premises.
According to Thames Valley Police, the suspects were last seen heading towards the Old Windsor and Datchet areas, with no arrests made so far. The police stated, “Offenders entered a farm building and made off with vehicles,” and confirmed that an active investigation is ongoing.
Sources have revealed that King Charles and Queen Camilla were not present at Windsor Castle during the incident, and stringent police protection ensured no immediate risk to the royals residing on the estate. Located approximately 40 kilometers west of London, the expansive Windsor Castle estate spans 15,800 acres and features working farms, conservation areas, and significant royal landmarks, including the world-renowned Windsor Castle, which remains a major tourist destination.
Security Concerns Intensify at Windsor Castle
The recent burglary underscores escalating security concerns at Windsor Castle. This incident follows a December 2021 breach, when Jaswant Singh Chail scaled a fence armed with a loaded crossbow, expressing intentions to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II in retaliation for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Chail was later sentenced to nine years for treason and related charges.
