The British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) has revealed evidence of a “staggeringly reckless campaign” of Russian sabotage targeting Europe, as Moscow simultaneously resorts to nuclear threats to discourage international support for Ukraine.
Speaking in Paris on Friday, MI6 Chief Richard Moore warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ambitions extend far beyond Ukraine. He emphasized the broader implications of Russia’s aggression for Europe and the global order, stating: ”Our security – British, French, European, and transatlantic – will be jeopardized if Putin reduces Ukraine to a vassal state. He will not stop there.”
The Stakes of Supporting Ukraine
Moore highlighted that while the cost of supporting Ukraine is evident, the consequences of failing to act would be far graver.
“If Putin succeeds,” he said, “China would weigh the implications, North Korea would be emboldened, and Iran would become even more dangerous.”
Russian Nuclear Sabre-Rattling
The MI6 chief also pointed to Russia’s nuclear rhetoric as a calculated effort to sow fear and deter nations from aiding Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty.
“Putin and his acolytes are resorting to nuclear sabre-rattling to intimidate the international community,” Moore stated.
His speech comes amid escalating tensions as Russia’s actions not only threaten Ukraine but also challenge the stability of Europe and the broader transatlantic alliance.
Moore’s remarks underline the critical need for unified international resistance against Russian aggression, which he described as a threat to global security.
