A tragic discovery was made in Hoi An, Vietnam, where a British woman and her South African fiancé were found dead in their holiday villa, according to local police reports.
The bodies of Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and Els Arno Quinton, 36, were found on 26 December.
Otteson was located in a first-floor bedroom at approximately 11:18 am local time (04:18 GMT). Mr Quinton was discovered in a separate locked room within the same villa.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed it is providing support to Ms Otteson’s family and liaising with Vietnamese authorities.
Ms Otteson, a social media manager, and Mr Quinton, a musician and livestreamer, had recently celebrated their engagement, with a video posted on Instagram by Red Eye Studios on 11 December.
The couple had been staying at the Hoa Chuong villa in the Cam Thanh commune since last summer, having registered for long-term temporary residence.
Initial police investigations found no signs of external trauma or forced entry into the rooms. Reports from local media indicate that several empty wine bottles were discovered at the scene.
The cause of death remains under investigation. A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office stated, “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Vietnam and is in contact with the local authorities.”
The deaths of the couple have left friends and family in shock as they await further details from the ongoing inquiry.
